Technical questions about the app

Contact Support

To use our app, you need at least IOS 13 or Android 8. We chose this option because we work with sensitive personal data and want to make the app as secure as possible. Unfortunately, the security of the app cannot be guaranteed for older operating systems, so we do not support them.

The It’s my life/ Fitcoin app registers activity by intelligently connecting with various workout apps. We support Garmin, Fitbit and Apple brand pedometers. Besides these physical pedometers, you can also use your phone as a pedometer. Install and use Google Fit on Android or Apple Health on iOS.

No way to read your steps via one of these methods? Please contact your supervisor so that we can come up with a suitable solution for you.

Not every phone is equipped with a pedometer. They have the hardware, but not always the software. For Android, you need to install Google Fit first, only then you can use your phone as a pedometer for our app. With IOS, your phone already has Apple Health installed, you just need to activate it. This is not enabled by default on your IPhone. Only after activating Google Fit or Apple Health, you can use your phone as a pedometer with the app.

The app is about encouraging healthy behaviors, with a focus on sitting less and moving more (walking). With this movement behavior, we try to get insight into daily activity and the app rewards you for healthy movement behavior.

You can find the statistics in the app in the third tab. You will notice that the statistics here are mainly based on averages. The averages are calculated over the last 30 days and give you a good overview of your “score” compared to your community and your competitors. If you look further into the tab, you will also see your sitting and movement behavior for the last 7 days.

Sitting behavior is expressed in minutes per day. If you sit for more than 30 minutes, the timer in our app will start to register. It is persistent inactivity, which is unhealthy and comes into play after just half an hour of inactivity (sitting). During this inactivity, your heartbeat slows down, causing oxygen and nutrients to travel more slowly through your body and to your brain. In addition, due to changes in the body’s hormonal balance, more fat is stored than burned. From 30 minutes, the app therefore counts up the inactive minutes. When the inactivity is interrupted, the app starts counting again up to 30 minutes. Do you then pause the inactivity for those first 30 minutes? Then the timer will restart and you can be inactive for another half hour without it adding up. With this kind of calculation, we want to encourage you to take a moment every now and then to move and give your body the boost it so desperately needs. Inactivity is only measured between 07:00 and 23:00.

At the bottom of the statistics you will find two scoreboards. This scoreboard is disabled by default to protect your data according to the GDPR legislation. In the settings you can turn on the scoreboard and compete with your colleagues and community members. On the scoreboard, you have access to the top three and the three participants who are above and below you in the ranking. You will see a green arrow if you have moved up in the ranking and an orange arrow if you have moved down.
On the scoreboard 1 we record the ranking of the highest average number of steps walked. We work with an average over 30 days.
Scoreboard 2 displays the rankings of the greatest progress over the last 30 days. The app looks at how many steps you took yesterday and compares that to your average over the last 30 days. Did you take 5,500 steps yesterday and your average before that was 5,000? If this is the case, you have made a 10% progress and are therefore ranked quite high.

On the “Community” tab you can see the average of your entire community. In the It’s my life / Fitcoin app, we have chosen to make all data as transparent as possible, which means that both you and the community administrator will see the same data. In the Community tab you will find your community averages, community ranking and weekly data. Are you curious about your community? Visit this tab.

Exercise has a positive effect on your health. To measure whether this is the case for you, we ask you to complete the Fit Index. This is an assessment of how you experience your own health. From time to time, we will repeat this question to give you insight into whether your health is improving. Your personal score will ALWAYS remain private, but will be used to calculate your community’s average Fit Index. This average is visible in the community overview, but only if there are 15 or more participants. This keeps your data safe.

Sometimes it’s nice to have a little less radiation on your leg. The pedometer in your cell phone always measures your steps, even when you are not connected to the Internet. Only if you want to read these steps in our app, you need an internet connection. To transfer the steps from Google Fit and Apple Health to our app, you need to connect to the Internet. The same goes for using a Garmin or Fitbit pedometer. Again, you only need a connection if you decide to read in your steps.

Common problems

Of course, sometimes there may be a connection issue due to an update or setting change, your phone may start counting instead of your Apple Watch, or you may only see half of your steps in the app.
In many cases, this is very quick and easy to fix. Follow the steps below for each pedometer and you’ll be back on track in no time.

You should also see your steps and inactivity in last week’s statistics.

Sometimes an update or a change in settings will cause you to be logged out and unable to log in. This may be due to a lost password, but also how your data is stored on your cell phone. In the following steps, we will explain how to get back into the app as quickly as possible.

As an Android subscriber, you often have memory problems. Android devices handle memory a bit differently and therefore sometimes store things incorrectly. This problem can be quickly fixed by clearing the memory (cache) of the It’s my life / Fitcoin app.

Step 1: First, go to your phone’s settings and find the “Apps” menu.
Step 2: Find the It’s my life / Fitcoin app, click on it and open the app’s store menu.
Step 3: Scroll down and find the “Clear Data” button.
Step 4: Delete the data from our app and restart the It’s my life / Fitcoin app.
Step 5: Enter the email address where you have an It’s my life / Fitcoin account.
Step 6:Then enter the password and press “Next”.

Please note: If you need to enter your first and last name, you are creating a new account and have not entered the correct email address.

Step 7: If the login still fails, press “Cancel”, then go back and the “Forgot Password” button will appear
Step 8: Press the button, enter your email address and you will receive a recovery link in your email.

If you still can’t log into the It’s my life / Fitcoin app, please contact support@fitcoin.app and we’ll be happy to help you get back on track.

The app automatically records your steps if you have paired your phone’s pedometer with the It’s my life / Fitcoin app. If you don’t see the steps on your phone, refresh the app once. Your steps will be added.

When copying and pasting the community code, the phone may automatically insert a space after the community code. By removing this field you can proceed with the registration.

After you update the It’s My Life / Fitcoin app on your phone, you may need to sign in to the app again.
In this case, please enter the e-mail address with which you registered.
After entering your email address, you will immediately be presented with a password screen. If you see that you need to enter your first and last name, then you have entered a non-existent email address. In this case, go back and try another email address that you may already have an account with.
If you are already logged in and your Fitcoins are back to 0, log out via the settings and log in with a different email address.

Questions about the Fitcoin program

There are several ways to earn Fitcoins in our app. Basically, you earn Fitcoins while walking and running.
For every 1,000 steps you take, you receive 1 Fitcoin or 15 minutes of cycling. In addition, you can also earn Fitcoins by participating in activities (social, sports, educational or cultural) organized by providers or your employer.

Spending Fitcoins is done through the Fitcoin marketplace. This marketplace will have different offerings per community. You have seen an item you like and want to buy it? Always read the description and purchase process first. Here it is often explained how you can get an item and what you need to do to get it.

It’s great that you exercise a lot, but it only measures steps when you walk, run or bike.

Questions about data and data protection

The protection of your data is our top priority. We use the latest software and update the app regularly as new security requirements arise. Your data belongs to you and no one else at all times. When you delete an account your data is deleted, we do not have backups in this case. We use anonymous data to calculate averages within your company or organization so we can get a picture of progress. These averages are only visible for 15 or more participants, so these data can never be attributed to individuals.

The It’s my life / Fitcoin app only works with relevant data. Inactivity and steps are what we save. We measure this data with apps from Garmin, Fitbit, Google Fit and Apple Health. With these apps, you can turn your pedometer or phone into a true calculator that tells you about your exercise habits. Although we only store motion data, sometimes an app needs access to location services. This does not mean that we store your location, it is only necessary to enable the reading of your movement data.

The employer and the administrators of the app cannot see who, when and how much someone runs. Even if you have the app set to public, you will only see the names of colleagues performing just above and just below you. You can also see how many steps your own community has taken in total. But never individually.
